Business Optimisation and Total QX13

What is the focus of your Business Optimisation Consulting?

Our consulting focuses on streamlining operations, reducing costs, enhancing team performance, and unlocking your organisation’s full potential.

How does the Total QX framework benefit teams?

Total QX fosters collaboration, alignment, and operational excellence, equipping teams to deliver consistent, high-performing results.

Is Total QX suitable for team dynamics as well as leadership?

Yes, Total QX applies across leadership and team dynamics, driving alignment, collaboration, and measurable results at every level.

What does “optimisation” actually mean here?

There’s no fixed definition, and that’s deliberate. What we’re looking for is value leaking in ways nobody owns: a process built for a business half this size and never revisited, a control bolted on to patch a five-year-old mistake instead of fixing it, a customer experience nobody on the leadership team has been through from the outside in a decade. None of it shows up as one number on a report. All of it compounds. Optimisation isn’t cost-cutting; cost often comes out of the work, but only because something stopped being necessary, not because a number was set in advance.

How does the Total QX test drive results in Business Optimisation?

Every change is held to one blunt test: good for the customer, good for the people delivering it, and good for the business, all at once. Serve one or two of the three and nothing has actually been optimised; the cost has just moved to whoever wasn’t in the room, and it comes back later with interest. Refusing that trade is the reason the work still holds a year after we’ve gone.

Can Business Optimisation address operational challenges in my business?

That’s the whole of it. We’re looking for value leaking in ways nobody owns: bottlenecks, processes built for a business half this size, controls bolted on to patch old mistakes instead of fixing them. It’s found through the work itself, not a generic audit, because the shape of the fix depends on what’s actually in front of us.

Can Business Optimisation improve my team’s performance?

Where team performance is actually a symptom of a structural problem (a process nobody’s revisited, a decision that needs three signatures because of an old mistake), yes, that’s core to the work. Leadership Counsel is a separate, one-to-one relationship and doesn’t work with your team directly; if the issue is genuinely structural, Business Optimisation is the right door.

How does Business Optimisation enhance team alignment?

By finding where the business, not any one person, is producing the misalignment: a process nobody owns, a handover that’s clean on paper and clumsy in practice. Fix the structural cause and the alignment tends to follow. Leadership Counsel works one person’s decisions; if what’s misaligned is the team itself, this is the more direct route.

How does Business Optimisation support business growth?

By removing what’s actually capping it: the process built for a smaller business, the dependence on one or two people who’ve become the system. Growth that just adds revenue on top of those constraints doesn’t hold; growth that removes them does.

Does Business Optimisation address challenges unique to mid-sized businesses?

Yes; it’s most of who we work with. A mid-sized business is usually past the point where the owner can hold it all personally and hasn’t yet built the systems that let it run without them. That gap, scaling without losing control, is most of what the work is finding and closing.

How does Business Optimisation support leaders in fast-growing companies?

Fast growth surfaces the same structural gaps faster: the process that worked at half the size, the dependence on people who’ve become the system. The work is finding those before they become the thing that breaks, not after.

Leadership & Management Training10

Are your Leadership & Management courses accredited?

Yes, the Emerging Leaders Program is accredited as a Certificate IV in Leadership and Management (BSB40520). Accreditation for Advanced Leadership Mastery and Executive Leadership Excellence is in progress.

What can I expect from your Leadership & Management training?

Our training equips participants with practical tools and strategies to develop collaboration, communication, and decision-making skills, driving measurable results and fostering excellence.

Can your leadership programmes be tailored for organisational teams?

Yes, we provide scalable solutions tailored to align with your organisation’s goals and development strategies.

Do you offer group discounts for organisations enrolling multiple team members?

No, we do not offer group discounts. Our pricing reflects the quality and value of our programmes. For organisations with specific needs or larger enrolments, feel free to contact us directly to discuss your goals.

What level of support do you offer for organisations sending their teams for training?

We provide end-to-end support, including pre-course onboarding, post-course implementation guidance, and optional progress reviews to ensure success.

How is Leadership and Management Training different from Counsel?

Leadership and Management Training is a structured programme: a curriculum, a cohort, and an external assessment, built to develop leadership capability, and at Certificate IV a nationally recognised qualification. Leadership Counsel is none of those things. It’s one person and one counterpart, with no course and no cohort, working whatever decision is actually on your desk rather than a syllabus. Training builds the capability; Counsel tests the calls you make with it. Different shapes, different buyers, and neither substitutes for the other.

Who accredits your Leadership and Management Programmes?

Any accredited programmes offered by Manolutions are certified through KnowledgeAccess, a trusted provider of assessment and certification services. This includes the Emerging Leaders Program, accredited as a Certificate IV in Leadership and Management (BSB40520).

How does the accreditation process work for your Leadership and Management Programmes?

All accredited programmes follow a rigorous process to ensure quality and alignment with industry standards. KnowledgeAccess oversees the assessment and certification, providing participants with formal recognition upon successful completion.

Are all courses at Manolutions accredited?

The Emerging Leaders Program is accredited as a Certificate IV in Leadership and Management (BSB40520), with accreditation for the Advanced Leadership Mastery and Executive Leadership Excellence programmes currently in progress. While these programmes await formal certification, they deliver the same exceptional quality, content, and transformative outcomes as our accredited offerings.

Who is Knowledge Access, and what is their role in the accreditation process?

Their expertise ensures that participants gain formal recognition for their achievements. Learn more about KnowledgeAccess and their services by visiting www.knowledge-access.com.

Leadership Counsel30

Who is Leadership Counsel for?

Two kinds of people. Business owners who carry the business personally, where the next decision has real money and their own name attached, and the people around them don’t have the standing or the skin in the game to test it with them. And seasoned pros who’ve hit a ceiling that has nothing to do with capability, out of or running low on relevant peers. It isn’t for rising leaders still building range; that’s better served by the accredited training, where a curriculum and a cohort are the point.

How is Leadership Counsel different from the leadership training?

Training is a course, a cohort, and an assessment, aimed at building capability in a team, and the Certificate IV, Diploma, and Advanced Diploma in Leadership and Management are nationally accredited or have accreditation pending. This is one person, one counterpart, no curriculum, built around whatever is actually on your desk. Different shapes, different buyers, and neither substitutes for the other.

What results can I expect from Leadership Counsel?

A decision that’s been properly tested rather than argued with yourself about, alone. Clarity on whether the call you were about to make survives contact with someone who has no reason to agree with you. We work each issue until it’s bounded, which is usually most of the answer, and then until it’s closed: fewer open loops, not a running list of things still open.

How does Leadership Counsel connect to the Total QX framework?

The work is grounded in Total QX, the same framework the firm reads a business through, so what you get isn’t an improvised opinion. It’s the same standard applied to your decision that we’d apply to your company: good for the customer, good for the people, good for the business, all at once.

How long does Leadership Counsel last?

There’s no lock-in on day one, and no standing agenda that never empties. The shape is simple: give it a try for 90 days. If either of us feels it isn’t working, we part company on good terms, no damage done. If it’s a good fit, then you make the commitment, to six months or a full year. Work at this level rewards the longer horizon. The decisions that reach counsel don’t arrive in a tidy order, and a full year lets the relationship do what 90 days can only begin.

How is Leadership Counsel delivered?

Usually by video, at a time that suits us both. Geography is the honest constraint: unless I’m already travelling on business in your part of the world, we’ll meet remotely rather than in person. For a big enough issue, that changes. Clients have paid to fly me to them and work a decision through face to face, and if that’s what one warrants, it’s yours to arrange. What doesn’t flex is the rest of it: one relationship, private, and confidential without qualification.

What’s the time commitment for Leadership Counsel?

Sessions run 40 to 45 minutes, on a set cadence rather than an open tap: once a fortnight as a standing rhythm. You do the work between them; the session is where the thinking gets tested, not where the work gets done. It isn’t an unlimited number of calls to be used up inside a period, and it isn’t so sparse that momentum dies between them.

Can Leadership Counsel help me grow my business?

Yes. Get the decisions right and growth tends to follow, and the clients who do the work between sessions are usually the ones who see it. Counsel sharpens the judgement you’re running the business with rather than running the operations for you; where it’s the business itself that needs work, that’s Business Optimisation, and the two often run alongside each other.

How do I know if Leadership Counsel is right for me?

If you carry the business personally and there’s no longer anyone around you with the standing, or the independence, to tell you the accurate thing rather than the comfortable one, it’s for you. This isn’t a sounding board or a motivational corner. It’s a second judgement of real weight, from someone who has built and exited five companies of his own, sat on both sides of the investment table, and made the calls you’re making with real money and his own name attached. You already know what you’d tell someone else in your position. The value is a counterpart with the standing to tell you whether that holds, and the independence to say so when it doesn’t.

Is Leadership Counsel the right move for me right now?

If there’s a decision on your desk you can’t properly test with anyone around you, yes. And it isn’t a one-issue arrangement. A counterpart of this kind is there for whatever is live, the thing in front of you now and the ones that follow over the months. What we bring is structure: we isolate each issue so it can actually be worked and closed rather than left to swirl, and where your side has the capacity to carry more than one at a time, some can run in parallel. That last part comes down to you and your team, because you do the work. Our part is making sure nothing that matters stays open by default.

What’s the difference between Leadership Counsel and executive coaching?

The same distinction as with coaching generally: coaching asks what you already think, on the assumption the answer is somewhere in you. It usually is, and it usually isn’t enough on its own. Counsel brings a second judgement of equivalent standing to bear on the decision, from someone who has sat where you sit and has no reason to agree with you. “Executive” just describes the seniority; the distinction is the same either way.

Is Leadership Counsel worth the investment?

That’s not a question we’ll answer with a pitch. Read what it is and what it isn’t, decide in your own time, and write when you have. If it’s not the right call for you, we’ll tell you rather than sell you on it.

How do I get started with Leadership Counsel?

Write. Paul reads it, not an assistant. You’ll have an answer within two working days, and if we’re not the right call we’ll tell you. Nobody here will attempt to close you on a phone call, and you don’t need to book one first.

Can Leadership Counsel help me manage a growing team?

Not directly; it’s one relationship, working the decisions you personally carry, not a team programme. If it’s your own team’s leadership capability that needs building, that’s the accredited training; if it’s the business’s operating structure as it scales, that’s Business Optimisation.

Does Leadership Counsel address challenges unique to small business owners?

It addresses challenges unique to owners who carry the business personally, whatever its size. Most of who we work with sits mid-market, but the thing Counsel responds to (being the most senior person in the room with nobody of equivalent standing to push back) doesn’t wait for a business to reach a certain size.

What’s the difference between Leadership Counsel and Business Coaching?

Business coaching works on the business: its operations, its growth, its numbers, usually to a method the coach brings. Counsel is one relationship testing the decisions you personally carry. It isn’t coaching and it isn’t consulting: we’re not applying a programme to you, and we’re not running the project for you. If it’s the business itself that needs the work rather than your judgement about it, that’s our advisory practice, Business Optimisation, which is a different thing with a different shape.

How can Leadership Counsel improve my decision-making?

It gives you somewhere to test a decision before you make it, with someone who has no reason to agree with you. At a senior level the blindspots aren’t the ordinary kind everybody carries; they come from being the most senior person in the room with very few, if any, people of equivalent standing to push back. Counsel is that pushback.

Do you offer Business Coaching?

No, not as a standalone service. If it’s the business itself that needs work, that’s Business Optimisation: advisory work on the business, one issue or one system at a time. If it’s the decisions you personally carry as the owner, that’s Leadership Counsel. We don’t sell a generic “business coaching” product because those are genuinely different problems that want different shapes of help.

Do you offer Executive Coaching?

No. What executives get here is Leadership Counsel: one counterpart, no curriculum, testing a decision before you make it with someone who has no reason to agree with you. If you want that on a defined footing, it has one, CLEAR-IT: one real issue every 30 days, worked through to a designed resolution, six issues cleared rather than merely discussed across six months. What we don’t do is coaching in the ordinary sense, the encouragement and the accountability check-ins for their own sake. If that’s what you’re after, we’ll tell you honestly it isn’t us.

How is Leadership Counsel tailored for business owners?

It’s built around whoever carries the business personally: the owner with nobody above them to check their thinking, whose next decision has real money and their own name attached. There’s no curriculum. You bring whatever’s actually on your desk and it gets worked until it’s closed.

What benefits does Leadership Counsel offer executives?

A second judgement from someone with no reason to agree with you, at the point where you’ve hit a ceiling that has nothing to do with capability. You already know what you’d tell someone else in your position; the value is finding out whether that survives contact with somebody who’s actually sat there.

How does Leadership Counsel help leaders navigate business growth?

By giving you somewhere to test the decisions growth forces on you, before you make them, with someone who has no reason to agree with you. It works your judgement, one decision at a time; it doesn’t run the growth plan for you or work with your team directly. That’s Business Optimisation.

How does Leadership Counsel prepare me for scaling my business?

Scaling forces decisions faster than usual, often without anyone around you positioned to test them. Counsel is that test: one counterpart, no reason to agree with you, working each call until it’s bounded and then closed. The systems and team alignment that scaling also needs sit with Business Optimisation.

Can Leadership Counsel help large organisations drive impact at scale?

It isn’t who the firm is built for; we work mostly with mid-market owners and chief executives who carry the business personally. The exception is deliberate and rare. Where a large organisation has the structural drivers to justify a stake in the outcome alongside the fee, we’ll look at it, because then our interests and yours are genuinely the same rather than a retainer running its months. Those are outliers, not the model, and we’d tell you plainly which one you are.

How does Leadership Counsel support startups?

Startups are the other exception, the equal and opposite of the large-organisation one. Paul spent his early private-equity and venture-capital years inside hundreds of them, brought in to help founders make them work, so there’s a genuine strand of Leadership Counsel for early-stage founders. It’s kept deliberately tight and strict, a small number at a time, so it stays counsel and doesn’t turn into a mill. If you’re a founder who wants a second judgement from someone who has sat in both the founder’s chair and the investor’s, write and say where you are.

Do you work with non-profits or mission-driven organisations?

Yes. Leadership Counsel works the same way for a non-profit’s leader as for any owner: one relationship, testing the decisions you carry, whatever the organisation’s structure.

How does Leadership Counsel support startups backed by private equity or venture capital?

This is where that strand is sharpest. Paul was brought into private equity as a founding partner with his own capital in, and his job from day one was to go inside the backed companies and help founders and management make them work. A founder managing investor expectations, board dynamics, and a fast burn is exactly who that experience speaks to. Same discipline as the wider startup strand: kept deliberately limited, so write and tell us where you are rather than expecting an open door.

What experience does Paul Lange bring?

Close to four decades across finance, technology, hospitality, professional services, and operating roles, on both sides of the table, with private equity and venture capital one part of it, and five of his own companies built and taken through to exit.

Can Leadership Counsel help me prepare for investor pitches and funding rounds?

Within the startup strand, yes, on the judgement side of it: how to think about the raise, what a room full of investors is actually weighing, where your story is strong and where it will be tested. Paul has been on both sides, pitching and being pitched to. The mechanics of building the deck itself sit in dedicated pitch-deck training on Paul Lange’s own site, and we’ll point you there rather than rebuild it here.

Can you help us create a pitch deck?

The training for building a compelling, investor-ready deck is a dedicated course on Paul Lange’s own site, with decades of pitching and evaluating pitches behind it. Where a pitch is part of a live counsel or advisory engagement, we’ll help you sharpen the thinking and the story that sits under the deck. But the standalone how-to-build-it lives there, not here, and we’ll send you to it.
